New Baseball Team Coming to Siler City: Introducing the Chatham County Yardbirds
SILER CITY, NC — Baseball is officially coming to Chatham County. Today, team officials announced the name of Siler City’s new baseball franchise: the Chatham County Yardbirds. The Yardbirds will take the field for their inaugural season beginning May 23, bringing family-friendly baseball and a new source of community pride to the heart of Chatham County.
The name “Yardbirds” pays tribute to the region’s rich railroad history and working-class roots, celebrating the spirit, grit, and resilience that define Chatham County. Just as rail yards were once a hub of connection and commerce, the Yardbirds aim to make Siler City a gathering place for fans, families, and baseball lovers from across the region.
The Yardbirds’ season will kick off on May 23 against Wake Forest Fungo at Flaherty Park, marking the beginning of a summer filled with exciting baseball, local entertainment, and community events. Fans can expect competitive play, themed game nights, and a ballpark experience designed to welcome everyone—from lifelong baseball fans to first-time attendees.
Additional details regarding the team’s roster, schedule, tickets, and special events will be announced in the coming weeks.
